No. There is no obligation at this stage. Andy is always happy to offer advice, even if you decide tutoring isn’t right for you.

Once you’ve completed our enquiry form, you’ll have the opportunity to book a convenient time to speak directly with Andy Gardner, our Tutor Director and a former secondary school teacher. The consultation usually lasts around 15 to 20 minutes and is completely free, with no obligation to proceed.

The conversation is relaxed and informal. We don’t expect you to know every detail about your child’s current attainment or exam board. More importantly, we want to understand your child as an individual; their personality, learning style, strengths, interests, confidence and any challenges they may be facing. We’ll also discuss their school, subject, availability, any previous tutoring and what you hope tuition will achieve. Many of our teachers have extensive classroom experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety and other additional learning needs, allowing us to consider these carefully when recommending a tutor.
With your permission, we record the consultation using secure transcription software. This allows us to listen carefully, capture the finer details and ensure nothing important is missed when recommending a tutor. The recording is used solely to support the tutor matching process.

Sometimes it can be helpful for Andy to speak briefly with your child, although this isn’t essential and many consultations are with parents only. Once we’ve identified a suitable tutor, your child will also have the opportunity to speak with them before lessons begin. After all, it’s one of the few chances they’ll have to choose their own teacher, and we believe that’s an important part of building a successful working relationship.

Finding an experienced tutor is only part of the process. Finding the right tutor for your child is what makes the real difference.

He then carefully recommends the teacher he believes is the best fit, based on their teaching experience, subject expertise and ability to build a positive working relationship with your child.

Our tutors regularly prepare students for qualifications including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas, WJEC, Cambridge International and increasingly for the International Baccalaureate (IB).

Finding the right tutor is incredibly important. As we often say, you’re the one who decides to find a tutor, but your child will decide whether the tuition continues. That’s why we place so much importance on getting the match right from the very beginning.
We’re proud that over 95% of our tutor recommendations become successful long term partnerships. Every recommendation is made personally by Andy Gardner, not by an algorithm or automated booking system.

However, every student is different. If, after the first few lessons, you don’t feel the tutor is quite the right fit, simply let us know. Our tutors understand that one to one tuition is a unique relationship and occasionally a different teaching style or personality may be a better match. There’s no awkward conversation for you to have, we’ll handle everything on your behalf.

Our aim is always to build a successful long term relationship between tutor and student, so we’d much rather recommend an alternative teacher than continue with a partnership that doesn’t feel quite right.

We offer both online and in person tuition. Where we have a suitable tutor locally, we may recommend face to face lessons. However, many families now choose online tuition because it gives access to the teacher who is the best fit for their child, regardless of location.

Online tuition has evolved significantly since the pandemic. Our experienced teachers use interactive resources, live collaboration and tailored lesson materials to create engaging one to one sessions that are very different from whole class online teaching.

Ultimately, the decision is yours, but your child will decide whether the tutor is the right fit. We often recommend trying the teacher we believe is best matched to your child’s personality and learning style, even if that means beginning with online lessons.

Your tutor will send a simple link for the lessons, such as Lessonspace, Zoom, or Teams. Click the link at the agreed time and your tutor will be there. A quiet space, a charged laptop or tablet, and stable Wi Fi make the session run smoothly. Works very well for primary, GCSE, and A level students.

This depends on the subject, your preferred lesson times and tutor availability. We aim to arrange an initial consultation with Andy as soon as possible after your enquiry. He will then identify a suitable tutor, discuss the opportunity with them and, if they feel they are a good fit, we’ll send you their profile before making an introduction.

As the process relies on speaking with both families and tutors, it typically takes around 48 hours to identify the right match. In most cases, the first lesson takes place within a week of your initial enquiry, depending on everyone’s availability. We believe it’s worth taking a little extra time to find the right tutor, rather than simply the first one available.

For most GCSE and A Level students, we typically recommend weekly lessons. Regular sessions help maintain continuity, keep students accountable for work completed between lessons and allow tutors to build momentum over time.

We don’t tie families into a minimum number of sessions or fixed contracts. Tuition should work around your family, and many students take planned breaks during the school holidays, which can be agreed directly with their tutor. Provided the agreed cancellation notice is given, there is no obligation to attend every scheduled lesson.

There is no recommended minimum or maximum number of lessons. Some students only need short term support, while others continue throughout their GCSE or A Level course. Weekly tuition during term time typically results in around 30 lessons over the course of a school year. We find this provides enough consistency to build confidence, address gaps in understanding and make meaningful progress without becoming overwhelming.

Most children show a lift in confidence and engagement within the first few sessions as they get to know their tutor. Regular weekly lessons help them settle into a steady rhythm that supports real growth. Over several months many families notice clearer understanding in class, stronger answers in homework, and better results in school tests. Every child is different, but consistent support and a good match usually lead to steady and noticeable progress.

Although we’re based in Harrogate, our tutors support families across Yorkshire and increasingly throughout the UK. We frequently work with students from Harrogate Grammar School, St Aidan’s, Ashville College, Rossett School, Ripon Grammar School, Queen Ethelburga’s, GSAL, schools across North Leeds and York, together with many local primary schools.

We also support students preparing for grammar school and independent school entrance examinations, including 11+ and 13+ assessments at Lancaster Girl’s Grammar and Bootham School. Where we have a suitable tutor nearby, we may recommend in person tuition. Otherwise, we’ll carefully match your child with the best qualified teacher online, regardless of location.

Tuition starts from £55 per hour, depending on the student’s level and subject.
