Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the first and most important factor when choosing a tutor for your child.

Every tutor recommended by Up Your Grade has completed a thorough recruitment process.

This includes an enhanced DBS check, two professional references, and full verification of identity and teaching qualifications.

As part of our safer recruitment interviews, we confirm that each tutor understands their safeguarding responsibilities.

They must formally declare that they are suitable to work with children under the age of 18.

Our safeguarding promise

Safeguarding is our highest priority. We are committed to protecting the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people who receive support through Up Your Grade.

Our safeguarding approach is designed to create a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for every student.

The commitments below guide how we work with families and tutors.

Our commitments

Every tutor undergoes thorough background checks, including an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, to ensure they are suitable to work with children and vulnerable individuals. We also verify references and qualifications as part of our safer recruitment process.

All tutors receive safeguarding training, including regular updates, to ensure they understand how to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns, whether they arise during in-person or online tutoring sessions.

We have clear procedures in place for tutors, staff, students, and parents to report any safeguarding concerns. Our designated safeguarding lead is available to respond to and manage any issues swiftly and sensitively.

We ensure that all tutoring sessions—whether in person or online—are conducted in safe, appropriate settings. Online sessions are delivered via secure platforms, and we promote responsible use of technology.

Our tutors are trained to maintain professional relationships with students and families, ensuring that interactions are respectful, safe, and focused on learning.

We actively encourage students to voice any concerns or discomfort they may feel during tutoring sessions. We listen and take all concerns seriously, acting on them appropriately.

We work closely with parents and guardians to keep them informed of their child’s progress and to ensure they are comfortable with the tutoring arrangements. We encourage open communication to ensure that the student’s needs are being met safely.
